As the first train of Shanghai Metro Line 11 set out at 5:30 pm on August 31, the second phase of Line 11, which extends from Jiangsu Road station to Luoshan Road station, was officially put into use, according to Eastday.com.

The completed Line 11 will extend from Huaqiao town of Jiangsu province in the north to Luoshan of Pudong in the south. Together with the transfer at Line 16, the whole journey is over 66 kilometers.

Shanghai Metro Line 11 began its operation on Dec 31, 2009. It runs through Puxi by way of Jiading district, Putuo district and Changning district. Its north extension and south extension – the second phase – are expected to finish in Sept 2013, according to the Shanghai Pudong New Area Construction and Transportation Commission.

Corresponding public transportation has been set up along Line 11. Stations in the Pudong section include Orient Sports Center station, Sanlin station and Luoshan station. Orient Sports Center station is a transfer station for Line 6, Line 8 and Line 11.

Passengers can transfer to Line 11 and Line 16 at Luoshan station. The Zhangnan Line only runs in a single direction as Luoshan Road is under construction.

Because it was the weekend, most of the passengers in the subway to Sanlin station were curious senior citizens.

"We used to transfer to a bus at Jiangsu Road station, or take a detour at People's Square station. It's much more convenient to go to Xiujiahui directly now," said He, a resident living by Shanghai West station. Some old people hoped to have a look at Longhua and Orient Sports Center .

Some passengers transferring from Line 6 to Line 11 were confused at Orient Sports Station. They could take Line 11 at the same platform if heading for Jiading district, but if they went to the other end of Line 11, they could transfer only after crossing the station hall to the opposite platform. Same confusion appeared when they transferred from Line 11 to Line 6.

"I'm not familiar with the new line, and it's okay to follow directions. However, it will be a challenge for us on crowded work days," Wang, a passenger, said. Moreover, mobile phones using China Telecom were out of service from Orient Sports station to Sanlin station.
