The Zhouzhuang Tourism Company successfully received permission to build boats in September 2012. It became the first enterprise in Kunshan qualified to construct wooden boats. Technicians were organized by the boat building department of the company to build the first batch of wooden boats.

Technicians actively provided technical guidance to strictly regulate the manufacturing process and later processes. The first batch of seven hand-made boats passed assessment by the vessel inspection department on Jan 17, 2013, and received a Boat Inspection Certificate.

The success effectively protects the traditional wood boat building craft and has had significant meaning for tourism development in Zhouzhuang.
