Inner Mongolia arranged 26 public spots for local residents to commemorate their deceased loved ones during Tomb Sweeping Day to promote greener and more civilized ways to practice the traditions associated with the holiday, according to the Hohhot civil affairs department.

The event called on locals to adopt low-carbon and frugal ways of honoring the deceased, instead of observing the reckless tradition of burning paper money.

The Hohhot civil affairs department provided 30,000 chrysanthemums, with 200 to 300 per public commemorative spot. Every citizen could take one for free from April 2 to 4 at the sites.
