Snowfall causes traffic disruption in Hohhot

A moderate snowfall in Hohhot caused disruption on the roads during the early morning of Feb 7, closing several arterial highways and roads, and triggering hazardous driving conditions in downtown areas.

After the snowfall, the average temperature in Hohhot fell by 4 to 6 Celsius degrees, with the lowest temperature recorded being -19 C in Wuchuan. Meanwhile a strong wind blew across the city, causing many roads to become icy and bringing on inconvenience to local transportation, according to the local weather department.

Several arterial highways were closed including the Beijing-Tibet Expressway, Beijing-Xinjiang Expressway, and Hohhot-Beihai Expressway that in the Hohhot area. Local public bicycle services were also suspended.
