The conference aimed to publicize the regional advantages in developing the big data industry, to attract more investment to boost local cloud computing, and to promote the construction and potential applications of the industry.

During the conference, Li Jiexiang, mayor of Hohhot, introduced Hohhot's investment environment in cloud computing and the big data industry. He said Hohhot is the back land of the Bohai Economic Rim and one of the important cities of China's north and west-orientation policy.

The city also features one of the top three power grids, the Inner Mongolia Power (Group) Co., Ltd, which can provide stable and strong power for big data centers and cloud computing enterprises.
In recent years, Hohhot’s service industry has become a strategic focus for optimization and upgrading of industrial structure, attracting China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom and establishing a national big data center, with 50 billion yuan's ($7.38 billion) investment.

To date, the city has formed a development pattern with two industrial parks, three data centers and dozens of applications and services.

Li Jiheng, secretary of the CPC Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Committee, suggested that the development of the cloud industry of Hohhot should depend on the big data center and involve more cloud computing centers, added-value service centers and cloud innovation centers that can influence a wider area of China.

At the promotion conference, the government of Hohhot, Xincheng district and Horin Ger, Hohhot signed 38 cooperation projects with enterprises including Baidu and CASI Cloud. Contracted funds reached more than 8 billion yuan.

The event was sponsored by the People’s Government of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the Inner Mongolia Branches of China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Inner Mongolia Development and Reform Commission, the Inner Mongolia Science and Technology Bureau, and the Hohhot government.
