National ethnic games bring 1.74b tourism income for Ordos

The 10th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities has achieved total tourism income of 1.74 billion yuan ($271.32 million), according to the tourism bureau of Ordos, the host city in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

During the games, from August 9 to 17, Ordos received 2.14 million tourists, 649,000 of whom stayed overnight. The growth rates of tourist volume and tourism income increased over 20 percent from last session.

Not only tourists from neighboring regions such as Shaanxi province and Ningxia Hui autonomous region, the games also attracted tourists from further away, such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shandong province.

From the beginning of this year, Ordos has invited over 200 companies from more than 60 cities to hold tourism promotion conferences. In addition to its four key products including ethnic customs and desert landscape, the 10th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities was a highlight in the promotion.
