The third batch of traditional villages was released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Culture, and other related ministries in November 2014. A total of 994 traditional villages will receive support from central finance for protection, including 16 villages in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Traditional villages are embodiments of traditional lifestyles and production. The traditional villages in Inner Mongolia are distinctive thanks to the cultural heritages of abundant ethnic groups. The unique spiritual and cultural connotation of historical records, clans, dialects, local customs and production techniques have been well preserved in these 16 villages.

In order to protect traditional villages and surroundings, the autonomous region administration of cultural relics has framed the protection works in compliance with relevant requirements.
