The Chinese website cvpp.cn, founded by Beijing Guoyizi Culture Media Development Center, released a list of Inner Mongolia’s Top 10 Cultural Symbols on Jan 13, based on an online poll – the first of its kind - which was carried out over a period of five months.

The list includes historical figures, tourist attractions, singers, poets and various traditions.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Genghis Khan, the founder and Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, tops the list with 13,896 votes. Other symbols include the Mongolian yurt, the traditional festival of Nadam, the singer Tengger and Hulunbuir Prairie, which covers an area of 260,000 square.
