Premier Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama expressed his sincere appreciation for CGGC’s great concerns on Fijian. He believed that as an international construction contractor with advanced technologies, rich experience and strong awareness of social responsibilities, CGGC would make more contributions to improving Fijians’ livelihood through its fast and high-quality construction and great passion for helping Fiji, and would also build a good reputation there. He thanked again for CGGC’s engagement in the disaster relief work in Fiji and praised its contributions for deepening the friendship between China and Fiji.

In April, the severest flood over the past century hit Fiji, displacing thousands of residents; therefore, Fiji government declared a state of emergency in the disaster areas, and required foreign tourists to postpone their entering into the country, a move which has never been seen in the history of such a country highly relying on tourism as Fiji. Also affected by the floods, CGGC Fiji Branch paid great attention to the flood and the relief work of Fiji people. On the one hand, it took measures to ensure the safety of the project staff and minimize the property loss and effects to the construction progress; on the other hand, it helped Fiji government and people to combat the flood and rebuild their home by raising funds and providing equipment and materials.

CGGC undertook the Road Reconstruction Project in Fiji to build and upgrade 34km-long highways. The project is an important part of the transportation planning of Fiji Government and is significant for the economic development, employment improvement in vicinity and poverty reduction. Since its inception last May, the project has been well under way and has been highly praised by people from almost all walks of life in Fiji as it met the requirements of the contract in safety, environment protection and quality.
