On Jan 28, a grand opening ceremony was held in Lafia, capital of Nassarawa, marking the kick-off of the Nigeria East Railway Repair Project undertaken by CGGC.

The Nigeria East Railway stretches northward from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Maiduguri, Borno State. With a length of 2119 kilometers, the railway to be repaired is divided into three sections, and CGGC is responsible for about 554 kilometers from Makourdi to Kourou, including two tributary lines, one from Kourou to Jos and the other from Kafanchan to Kaduna. The project duration is 10 months.

Nigeria relies heavily on road transport, which is high in cost and low in capacity. The construction of the Nigeria East Railway is of significant importance for facilitating Nigerian people’s traveling and promoting its overall social and economic development.
