The 153,000 hectare Reserve has become an important breeding place and transit area for the migrant birds. Some 6 million birds of 43 species travel through the area every year, which accounts for 1 percent of the total number of birds around the world according to statistics.

The State Council, or Cabinet, announced on Nov. 25 that China is going to reduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with the level of2005.

It is a voluntary action taken by the country.

China has reduced its carbon intensity by more than 13 percent since 2006 and aims to reduce it by 20 percent by the end of 2010,an equivalent of reducing 1.5 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide emission.

China takes lead in economic recovery.

The government carried out a package of stimulus policies to invigorate ten key industries, namely steel, automobile, shipbuilding, petrochemical, textile, light industry, non-ferrous metal, equipment manufacturing, information technology and logistics industries, to cope with the global financial crisis. An annual economic growth of around 8 percent is expected to be achieved.
