As many as 200,000 soldiers and civilians participated in the mass parade held in Beijing to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China on Oct. 1. Chinese President Hu Jintao inspected the army and delivered an important speech.
More than 80,000 people from all walks of life attended the National Day evening gala held in the capital city.

Chinese President Hu Jintao attended the opening ceremony of the World Media Summit, held from Oct. 8 to 10 in Beijing, and delivered a speech. Known as the "Media Olympics", the Xinhua-sponsored summit brought together over 130 foreign media organizations from more than 70 countries and regions and passed a joint declaration.
