Gansu lamb industry booms

Lamb from Jingyuan county, Baiyin city, Gansu province became the fourth national geographical indication protection product representing Jingyuan after evaluation by the National Bureau of Quality Inspection on Dec 23.

The lamb is raised in 18 towns and villages.

In order to promote local lamb, the county has built a center which feeds one million sheep and ten high quality mutton production bases.

There are 236 standard sheep farms. The local government has invested 220 million yuan in a Muslim beef and mutton fair.

By the end of 2014, the total number of sheep in Jingyuan reached 1.32 million and the annual output value was 430 million yuan.

The other three local products already on the national list are Jingyuan's Chinese wolfberry or goqi, Chinese dates, and black melon seeds.
