Ritual marks Confucius' 2,566th birthday in Baiyin

Baiyin city, in Northwest China's Gansu province marked the 2,566th birthday of the ancient philosopher Confucius at the Confucius Temple on Sept 28.

More than 200 participants attended the memorial ceremony, where they laid baskets of flowers before the statue of Confucius and read a eulogy together.

The ceremony was set to remind people of traditional Chinese culture, especially Confucianism, said Zhang Qiandong, president of Baiyin city's Institute of Traditional Chinese Culture, which organized the event.

Confucius' ethic and educational ideas have won worldwide acceptance and exerted great influence on Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asian countries.
