After college, are big cities better than small ones?

By Wu Yue | China Daily | Updated: 2017-01-11 07:25

NO

Small cities have development potential and life is much easier.

1. Though there are many jobs in big cities, the competition is fierce, too. Small cities, however, are developing fast with policy support, and are eagerly seeking talent. Graduates are given more importance in small cities, and they can gain experience in grassroots China as well as make more contributions.

2. Life is easier in small cities, with affordable living costs and better environments. The household registration system and whopping house prices often close the door to living in big cities for graduates, but small cities are very livable, not to mention the material conditions are getting closer with those in big ones. Also, as air pollution and smog get more severe in big cities, why not enjoy the fresh air and affordable life in small cities with ones you love?

3. Fresh graduates can achieve work-life balance in small cities. Most of today's graduates are the only child in their families, and have to take responsibility for the whole family, especially when parents get older. Small cities near one's hometown make it easier to take care of the family, as well as enjoy more leisure time.
