Heifer pays it forward

China Daily | Updated: 2013-04-03 13:30

Heifer International, a charity organization with a focus on easing hunger and poverty, held a charity summit in Beijing on the subject of "teaching a man to fish and changing his fate". They also held a charity banquet, with all proceeds going to Heifer China to help poor families.

By providing livestock and training to impoverished families, Heifer China has helped about 90,000 families in 16 provinces across China. Heifer's motto is "passing on the gift". Each family that received gift animals must agree to pass on offspring or an equivalent to another family.

The short-term aim of Heifer China is to ensure that the families receiving animals pass on their gifts in two or three years.
