It remains popular in the province where the folk heritage can be found in areas including Meizhou, Shantou and Shaoguan. In the city of Meizhou, Hanyue is best preserved in Dapu county. It has been practiced in Dapu for over 500 years, and over 100 Hanyue performance sites are scattered throughout the county and its nearby villages.
