PARIS - Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Thursday appreciated the role Sino-European cooperation played in addressing the global financial crisis, in a bylined article published on the French mainstream daily Le Figaro.
Dai, who is scheduled to visit France and Britain from September 22 to 27, highlighted exchanges and cooperation between China and Europe despite the impact of the global financial crisis.
Trade between China and Europe has exceeded the pre-crisis level, an increasing number of European companies have settled in China while Chinese enterprises are also becoming more active in investing in Europe, the state councilor said in his article.
"China is confident in the European economy and the euro, and support the measures of economic and financial adjustment taken by European countries," he said.
"The Sino-European cooperation has been a powerful support for their fight against the financial crisis," he said, noting the development of Sino-EU cooperation was a miniature of the general cooperation among various countries.
According to Dai, as multi-polarization, economic globalization and informationizing become more and more important, different countries from now on have a "shared destiny" in which all members are related, everyone depends on each other and one's misfortune doesn't benefit the others.
In this context, cooperation between China and Europe contributes to the strengthening of their respective economic power, promotion the diversity of cultures and lifestyles in the world, and the preservation of peace and security, Dai said, adding that "China and Europe are much mutually complementary."
According to a statement released by French President Nicolas Sarkozy's office, Dai is scheduled to meet with Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace Friday afternoon on Sino-Franco bilateral ties, the preparation for the G20 Summit, and other major international issues.
