On September 21, Vice-chairman of National People's Congress and vice president of Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament Yan Junqi met with UN Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development UNDP Resident Representative Renata Lok Dessallien in Shenyang at the commemorative activities of the International Day of Peace and the Northeast Asia Development Forum. The two sides held a cordial and friendly dialogue.

Yan Junqi said China has always advocated the spirit of peace and cooperation, calling to abandon war and violence, and actively promote surrounding region’s security and peace through a variety of ways.

Renata Lok Dessallien said she has been in China for one year as the United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, and as she gradually deepens her understanding of China, she has come to understand the efforts and achievements of the Chinese government, which has done a lot in regards to economic development, social development and environmental protection under such a unique condition.

There is no other country with such a large population and a complex geographical environment that can achieve the success of modernization as China has. There is no model to follow, so China's achievements are estimable and great.

Yan Junqi thanked Renata Lok Dessallien for her understanding and support of China. She went on to say that Chinese culture can be described by the word "balance", and international relations or social constructions should achieve that state of balance. Both sides hope that in future China and other countries will work together to promote regional peace and development, and make a united, harmonious and prosperous world.
