Polluting plant partly closed
The operation of a solar panel plant in eastern Zhejiang province was partly suspended after hundreds of villagers protested over pollution, local environmental authorities said.
Some production lines of a factory of the Zhejiang Jinko Solar Co, located in the city of Haining, have halted work, according to a statement issued by the city's environmental protection bureau on Monday.
More than 500 people from Hongxiao village began to gather in front of the factory on Thursday night, demanding an explanation to the death of a large swath of fish in a nearby river last month.
Chen Hongming, a deputy head of the environmental protection bureau, said previously that the factory's waste disposal has failed pollution tests since April.
The environmental watchdog has warned the factory but not effectively controlled the pollution, Chen said.
