KUNMING - One worker was confirmed dead and two others remained trapped after the roof of a colliery collapsed Sunday in southwest China's Yunnan Province, the local government said Monday.

The accident happened at 1:07 pm Sunday in a pit of Yangjiagou Coal Mine in the coal-rich Fuyuan County, the county government said in a press release.

Of the four workers who were doing repair work in the pit, only one escaped, it said.

One of the three trapped workers was found and pulled out of the pit at 10:40 am Monday. He died at the county hospital despite emergency treatment, the statement said.

It said rescue work continued for the remaining two workers.

The government did not identify the victims. The cause of the accident is not immediately known.
