South-Asia China trade fair to increase business

KATHMANDU - "Our main agenda is to make Nepal a business trading point", said Exhibition Director from Nepal China Executives Council Subodh Manandhar in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Friday.

With the aim of creating a mutual understanding and business cooperation among the South Asian countries, the South-Asia China Trade Fair 2010 is being held in the capital Kathmandu from Wednesday.

The four-day trade fair is mainly focused on developing the inter-country relation and business promotion between and among the countries, Manandhar said.

As many as 30 companies from Sichuan province of China has participated in the fair, said Manandhar.

He said that this is the first time that seven other South Asian countries have participated in the trade fair, as in previous trade fair, only China attended the exhibition.

The exhibition has mainly targeted the corporate business houses in Nepal along with it some stalls like Pakistani, Burmese have targeted general consumers.

"We are mainly focused on the business promotion and product display here in Nepal and among the participatory countries," Manandhar said.

Manandhar said that this kind of activity definitely promotes trade and business which is a way to get the economic prosperity among and between the countries.

Also this kind of event creates platform for different companies to initiate their business combining with different other countries, he further said.

Manandhar informed that they are getting really nice feedback from the business communities and also the general people.

He said that in the previous year the Chinese companies came just to demonstrate their product but this time they have come to sell their products which are expected to increase their business.

This event has also provided a forum for interactions between the private sector and the concerned authorities of the institution directly with the consumers and also business communities based in Nepal, Manandhar told.

"Our wish is to conduct this event every year and promote business and bilateral relations among the neighboring nations," he added.

He said that here they have a wide and big display of various kind of products ranging from handicraft to different machinery items which is the main attraction of the fair.

Talking to Xinhua, he said that this year they are expecting some 60,000 visitors.

According to him, there are 120 stalls including 30 Chinese stalls in display from altogether 100 different companies are participating in the trade fair, which is organized by Nepal-China Executive Council and attended by business-people from seven countries.

Along with Nepal, China, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh are also demonstrating different products of their nations.
