WUHAN -- Five workers died in a construction accident on Thursday in central China's Hubei Province, local authorities said.

The accident occurred at about 10 a.m. when workers were hoisting steel pipes at a construction site near Minyuan Road of Wuhan City, Hubei's capital.

But the carrier slanted. Two workers died after falling off the carrier, while the other three working on the ground were killed by the falling pipes, according to work safety officials of East Lake Development Zone of Wuhan.

Investigation into the accident was underway.
