Singer Jay Chou was invited to be an ambassador for China's anti-drug campaign during a TV program, China News Service reported.

As the 28th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 draws near, China National Narcotics Control Commission and the China Narcotics Control Foundation have launched a new major publicity campaign named "Anti-Drug War 2014."

China Central Television (CCTV) made a TV special for the campaign and during the recording session, music superstar Jay Chou was invited to be "China's Anti-drug Publicity Image Ambassador."

Chou once wrote a song called "Coward," in which he talked about rejecting drugs and loving life.

"We have to be brave in saying no to drugs," he said before the program was recorded, "It is cowardly not to say no."

He continued, "We cannot get happiness through narcotics. There are many other ways to release pressure. Music is one such way. Taking drugs doesn't just affect you, but also your family. It shatters your whole family."

Chou said there is no merit or sense in taking drugs. "Many young people take drugs simply out of curiosity," he said, "We have to stay away from drugs and treasure our lives. Health is our biggest wealth in life."

To fully promote the campaign, the organizers hired kungfu star Jackie Chan and TV actor Pu Cunxin as anti-drug ambassadors in previous campaigns.
