TUNIS — Chinese enterprises have been devoted in cultivating information and communications technology (ICT) talents for Tunisia, which helps develop Tunisia's economy, said a Tunisian official on Thursday.

Tunisian Minister of Communications Technology and Digital Economy Mouhamed Anouar Maarouf made the remarks during a program graduation ceremony sponsored by Huawei, a Chinese electronics giant.

Ten Tunisian university students completed the Huawei-funded digital skills development program after receiving a two-week ICT intensive training in July in China.

Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Bian Yanhua voiced hope that youths participating in the program would help develop Tunisia's digital economy and help promote Sino-Tunisian ties in the future.

Maarouf appreciated China for its efforts in supporting Tunisia's communications and digital industry, one of the most important development strategies of Tunisia.

Aziz Guys, a 23-year-old student, told Xinhua that the training project provided him with access to high-end ICT expertise and entrepreneurial skills, paving way for his future ICT career.

Initiated by Huawei in 2015, the Tunisia ICT talent program, known as "Seeds for the Future," aims to discover local ICT talents as well as to promote youths' interest in the ICT sector.

Each year, 10 Tunisian college students will be selected from across Tunisia to receive digital skills training in China.
