Ambassador: Seize opportunities in China

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-05-03 15:34

LONDON -- Young business people in Britain are encouraged to seize the opportunities brought by the "Chinese Dream," and to contribute to a brighter future of China-Britain relations, Chinese ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming said on Thursday.

Speaking at a celebration activity of the fifth anniversary of the Young Icebreakers, an unit under the 48 Group Club, an independent business network in Britain, Liu said the "Chinese Dream" mainly evolves around national and individual prosperity, good governance and a beautiful environment.

The founding members of the 48 Group Club, also known as "the icebreakers" of Britain-China trade, were the first Western businessmen to break through the trade embargo on the newly-founded People's Republic of China in the early 1950s. The club now has grown to over 600 members.

According to Liu, in the coming five years, China's imports will amount to $10 trillion, while the country's overseas investment will reach $500 billion. The number of China's outbound tourists will also pass 400 million.

"All these factors will undoubtedly stimulate global growth. So the 'Chinese Dream' is also a dream of peace, cooperation and mutual benefit," Liu said.

Stephen Perry, chairman of the 48 Group Club, told Xinhua that young Chinese and British people want to know each other, adding that bilateral relations and trade between China and Britain would grow stronger as mutual understanding improves.

More than 200 British and Chinese business people and politicians attended the celebration.
