What's hot at Beijing auto show?

For many, auto shows are not just about cars, but more often about big stars, hot girls, and live shows. But this year, things seem to be a little bit different, albeit with each of those on the menu, at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, or Auto China 2014.

With the auto show now in full swing, you may wonder what exactly tops the list that visitors want to feast their eyes on.

According to a survey conducted by the China Daily online team, about 52.8 percent of the respondents said they are interested in new-energy cars that are environmentally friendly and are setting the latest trends in the industry.

Car companies' new premiere models and concept cars take the second and third spot, securing 47.2 percent and 46.3 percent of the votes respectively.

Craze for hot girls and men has cooled down a bit this year, or at least is not the biggest attraction, according to those who participated in the survey.

Big stars too seem to have lost a lot of luster at this year's auto show, probably because they failed to meet fans at the scheduled time at the event as they were likely afraid of being mobbed.

Majority of visitors are not keen to have a look at or talk to bosses of the giant carmakers from home and abroad. The reason? A wild guess would be that chairmen or chief executives may be icons of their staff but probably not of visitors who are unfamiliar with them or unrelated to them.

The survey targets WeChat subscribers of the China Daily Bilingual News, of which 80 percent are between the ages of 22-30, while about 50 percent are students and 45 percent are male readers. Personal data was not collected from the 372 respondents.
