Fonterra's recalled product not imported to China

China has not imported the fresh cream products recalled by New Zealand dairy producer Fonterra for contamination of E. coli bacteria, the country's quality watchdog said on Tuesday.

The dairy producer announced on Monday that the recall involves 8,700 bottles of fresh cream, after quality tests showed E.Coli may be in some bottles of cream with the 21 January 2014 best before date.

In an online news statement, The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine dismissed fears that the recall would affect products imported to China as they are not imported to the country through trade channels.

However, the quality watchdog issued reminders to Chinese overseas consumers to keep tabs on the batch of the products recalled by Fonterra if they have purchased the products.

The recall involved fresh cream products of Fonterra brands NZ, including 300 ml and 500 ml bottles of Anchor and Pams fresh cream.

The recall came after Fonterra announced in August that one of its ingredients used in infant milk formula, sports drinks and other products contained a potentially fatal bacteria, triggering recalls in a number of countries including China.
