NPC press conference

Minister of Commerce Chen Deming, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Yizhong and Minister of Human Resources and Social Security Yin Weimin held a press conference Tuesday on "Boost domestic demand, increase employment and sustain economic growth".

Human Resources and Social Security Minister Yin Weimin warned of a "grave" employment situation, but said government measures to boost employment have taken "initial effects".

Meanwhile, Industry and Information Technology Minister Li Yizhong said the volume of power consumption in China continued to dip in the first two months of 2009 but the downward pace was slower.

Chen Deming, Minister of Commerce said while China is affected by the global economic recession, the country has undergone negative growth in both import and export since last November.

He added the Chinese mainland will set no preconditions for opening talks withTaiwanon a proposed "comprehensive economic cooperation agreement" (CECA).

The press conference was held on the sidelines of the Second Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
