Chongqing's southeastern Wulong district has developed sightseeing, leisure, rural and sport attractions to appeal to summer travelers.

An international art festival, a mountain race and beer and music carnivals will be staged to draw visitors, said Wulong's executive deputy head Hu Zhenqiang at a tourism promotion event in Beijing recently.

"We hope to better show the charm of Wulong through this promotion," Hu said.

Wulong, which was founded in AD 619 and covers an area of 2,900 square kilometers, and is about 130 kilometers from Chongqing's downtown.

The district boasts diverse natural landscapes featuring distinctive karst landforms, mountains, forests, caves and springs.

Wulong karst was designated World Natural Heritage in 2007, along with Shilin karst in Yunnan province and Libo karst in Guizhou province.

At the Beijing event, Wulong also launched an English website for inbound travelers, so they can find information when exploring the district.
