Tencent Video, one of China's biggest three online streaming media producers and broadcast platforms, announced the upcoming screening plan for 2019 on Nov 8. A myriad of historical-themed classics will be re-adapted by this internet colossus.

A series of late wuxia ("martial arts and chivalry") literature guru Jin Yong's novels will be moved to the screen again though they have been adapted for many times. The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber and Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils will be the first two productions in the new franchise by Tencent in 2019.

Chinese Paladin, a successful fantasy TV production in 2015 developed from a popular computer game, will have its Tencent version of adaption.

Empresses in the Palace,a 2011's TV series drama based on story of Empress Xiaoshengxian—also known as Consort Xi (Xifei)—in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), was once a phenomenal hit and was overwhelmingly appraised by audiences. And Tencent now has decided to make its new story of the legendry empress via upcoming Xifei's Royal Love in the Palace.

Emperor Renzong of Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) is considered as one of the most capable rulers in China's imperial years, but his stories have been rarely shown on screen. The upcoming Held in the Lonely Castle will choose him as the leading cast.

In terms of variety shows, Tencent also wants to make full use of its established brands. For example, Produce 101, a talent reality show nurturing girls' pop bands which became a cultural icon earlier this year, will return with second season in 2019. Nevertheless, the focus will switch to boys' bands.

Some new program formats will be introduced as well. A talent show on electronic dance music, or EDM, will be released soon by inviting famed Norwegian DJ Alan Walker to join production.
