DAMASCUS -- An improvised explosive device went off in Damascus' suburb of Dahiyet al-Assad Thursday evening, the pro-government Sham FM radio said.

The radio gave no further details about the blast, which is the second to rock the Syrian capital within one hour.

An explosive device affixed under a car in the suburb of Jaramana was blown off about an hour ago, leaving the car owner and his daughter injured.

As many as 25 people have been killed in Jaramana in a series of blasts that have targeted a number of people over the past three days.

Meanwhile, a pro-government news Facebook page said the blast in Dahiyet al-Assad killed two people. It said the blast was caused by three explosive devices.

The report could not be confirmed independently.

Thursday's blasts added momentum to the violence that had already engulfed a large number of suburbs around Damascus. Suburbs such as Zamalka, Arbeen and Jobar are witnessing intense clashes between armed insurgent groups and the government troops.
