Qantas flight turns back after engine problem

SYDNEY - A Sydney-bound Australian Qantas flight was forced to turn back to Bangkok airport in Thailand on Sunday night with engine problems after a bang on board the plane, the airline said on Monday.

Qantas has confirmed the pilot manually shut down one engine when he heard a loud bang and excessive shuddering 10 minutes after Flight QF2 took off about 10:30 pm. (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) on Sunday.

The plane landed safely in Bangkok and engineers are investigating the problem.

Qantas said the 356 passengers were being put on flights with other airlines.
