Over the years, Qu did many marketing surveys. Avoiding stereotypical business hotels, he also tried multiple hotels from youth hostels to high-end hotels, most operated by foreigners.

"I checked in and stayed there for a period of between 10 days and a month," he said. "I talked to the managers and guests, recorded the pros and cons, and wrote down my inspirations and experience."

Qu has invested every yuan he earned from his medical business in Yun House.

He recruited local housewives as housekeepers and said they are simple and kindhearted. "Rather than ask them to do a job, I tell them to treat the place as their home," Qu said. "They are hosts, the same as me, and all the guests are our family guests. We feel satisfied when we see guests happy with our work." Such is his hotel management philosophy.

He invited renowned American-Chinese chef Scott Chen, who is known for his adventurous cuisine, to head the hotel's restaurant, which offers authentic Western food and local delicacies made of ingredients freshly picked from the fields.

Qu said the hotel is unique and the best he can imagine. "Just like my son, it is of my genes."

The final and most important part of the hotel, Qu said, will be a meditation room, which is currently being built. "This will be the soul of the hotel, which I hope will offer guests a rest, both physically and mentally, in the mountains and by the riverside."
