Construction of the main part of the Xiamen North Railway Station in Xiamen, a coastal city in East China's Fujian province, was completed on Oct 8, 23 days ahead of schedule.

The project is progressing steadily as it enters its key construction period. The new railway station is expected to put into operation by June 2023.

When seen from the air, the corrugated roof of the main part of the new Xiamen North Railway Station is graceful and magnificent, spanning 267 meters from north to south, and 143 meters from east to west.

"We independently developed the Steel Structure Health Monitoring System, which was used to provide early warnings of structural damage during construction of the main project. The system can monitor the stress, deformation and temperature changes during the entire steel structure construction process in real time, and further improve the safety and stability of the steel structure," said Li Yanchang, the project manager.

As the main station on the Fuzhou-Xiamen High-Speed Railway, the new station spans an overall floorage of 250,000 square meters, and consists of seven station platforms.

The new station features traditional architectural elements of Minnan (southern Fujian province), and it has a wavy shape, which is intended to highlight the cultural characteristics of the Maritime Silk Road.

The Fuzhou-Xiamen High-Speed Railway, which is China's first cross-sea high-speed railway line, will open to the public between June and September next year, and is expected to promote the development of economically dynamic coastal city clusters in southeastern China.
