The welcome ceremony for the flame of the Chengdu 2021 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games (Chengdu Universiade) was held on Feb 25 at the Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province.

A gold "sun bird" design was unearthed at the Jinsha Ruins 21 years ago today. It was later selected as the symbol of Chinese cultural heritage and the main pattern for Chengdu's city sign. The Jinsha Site Museum is also where "Ronghuo" – the torch of Chengdu Universiade – was revealed.

The welcome ceremony was carried out under strict COVID-19 control measures, according to officials.

Shen Zhen, vice-chairman of the FISU, officially handed over the flame from Turin, Italy to Chengdu at the ceremony.

Zhu Zhangyi, curator of the Jinsha Site Museum, passed the flame to 10 Chengdu citizens and college students who have contributed to the Chengdu Universiade. The flame escort then lighted the flame for the Chengdu Universiade with the flame from Turin.
