Sinopec's Yuanba gas field has produced more than 24 billion cubic meters of natural gas since it started operations in 2014, according to the latest statistics from Sinopec's Southwest Petroleum Bureau, developer of the field.
Gas produced from the field has reportedly benefited thousands of companies and nearly 200 million people in more than 80 cities along the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. Located in Guangyuan, Nanchong and Bazhong cities in Southwest China's Sichuan province, the Yuanba gas field is the world's first large high-sulfur biohermal gas field with a depth of more than 7,000 meters.
It yields annual production of 4 billion cu m of raw gas and 3.4 billion cu m of purified gas and is regarded as an important supplier for the Sichuan Gas East Transmission Project.
The field is seen as being a major contributor to China's carbon peak and neutrality goals. Its annual gas output can help reduce 4.08 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and 100,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, equivalent to planting 37.4 million trees and taking 2.7 million cars off the road each year.
Moreover, Yuanba has supplied more than 1 billion cu m of natural gas since November 2021. The production of the field is currently 12 million cu m per day, which can meet the daily gas demands of 24 million households.
