Siming district in Xiamen, in East China's Fujian province, began to help Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture in Northwest China's Gansu province fight against poverty in 2010.

The poverty relief program was guided by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, China's top anti-poverty agency.

Over the years, Siming district has bolstered its poverty alleviation efforts by expanding cooperation fields, covering industry, employment, consumer spending, people's livelihoods and education.

Since 2017, the district has provided more than 150 million yuan ($22.68 million) in financial aid to the poverty stricken area.

A special poverty alleviation workshop built in Linxia by an enterprise introduced into Siming district is typical targeted poverty alleviation efforts.

The workshop, located in Hougucheng village in Zheqiao town, belongs to Kailin Shoes Co. More than 120 workers have found contentment in their lives through workshop, including 70 impoverished households.

Song Wenkai, general manager of the company, said that the factory has already helped about 300 people from 70 families lift themselves out of poverty.

To date, Siming district has established 89 workshops of this kind in Linxia, which have created local jobs for more than 1,000 poor households. More and more impoverished people in Linxia have changed over from being farmers to industrial workers in the workshops and factories brought into Siming district.
