Siming district in Xiamen, Fujian province was acknowledged as "the most beautiful movie set in China" at a promotional event during the 72nd Cannes Film Festival in France on May 16.

With its beautiful landscapes, pleasant climate and unique scenic spots, Siming attracts more than 100 film crews from home and abroad each year.

In November last year, Xiamen was selected to host the China Golden Rooster Film Festival for the next five years; unusual considering the event has traditionally been held in a different city each year.

As a result, film and television projects worth more than 6 billion yuan ($867.54 million) have settled or plan to settle in the district.

At the end of last year, the district released policies to support the development of the film and TV industry, including attracting and nurturing competitive film and TV businesses, encouraging training activities related to film, TV and culture, and supporting the establishment of related public service platforms.

Earlier this year, Shapowei, located in the district, was awarded the title of Xiamen Film and TV Shooting Location.
