Chengdu development pattern outlined

A recently released action plan outlines Chengdu's aims to establish itself as an international creative city within five years.

By 2022, the added value of the cultural innovation industry in the city will reach 260 billion yuan ($39.9 billion), accounting for over 12 percent of the city’s total GDP, according to the plan.

The plan unveiled the pattern of comprehensive cultural and innovation development the city is aiming for, which will center on two core areas, two belts and three new regions.

One of the two core areas identified is the central urban city, with plans focusing on progress in media publication, music and animated games.

The other is the city's Tianfu New Area, which will develop cultural creativity in technology and finance, as well as musical performance.

Longquan Mountain is one of the two belts in the plan, set to become a cultural industry zone in the city’s eastern area, focusing on the development of creative design, musical arts and tourism.

The other is Longmen Mountain in the south of the city, which will target cultural heritage-based tourism, scientific exploration and creative agricultural developments.

The three regions outlined in the plan will be divided into the northern, southern and western areas of the city.

Chengdu said the development pattern it envisages will be a cultural and creativity region with 20 towns, 10 million square meters of parks and 350 streets.

According to the plan, Chengdu will implement its vision by promoting Tianfu culture, improving the city’s industrial structure, promoting cross-industrial integration, supporting the growth of key sectors, establishing finance sources for cultural and creative industries, introducing more market players, deepening opening-up and optimizing the city’s business environment.
