Jiangsu to eliminate off-spec vehicles for better environment

(english.jschina.com.cn) Updated: 2015-03-03 08:28

Jiangsu will accelerate the elimination of vehicles failing to meet the exhaust emission standard as the Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Atmospheric Pollution Prevention and Control took effect from March 1.

"Jiangsu has 11.04 million vehicles in 2014, ranking the third place in trems of vehicle numbers in China," said Chen Mengmeng, director of the Jiangsu Provincial Environmental Protection Department. The increasing number of vehicles has impacted on the total exhaust emission control, forcing officials to take extra measures for health and safety.

For a better environment, Jiangsu will establish an online system to extract information about the off-spec vehicles within 13 cities in Jiangsu, according to an informal meeting held by the Jiangsu PPC on Feb 27.
