Jiang Zhizhou and 14 other photographers recorded life of the poor in three northern Indian states - Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar - from March 5 to 21, 2013. The following photos are selected from their collection from 52foto.com.

The photos show many of the problems that the country faces. The image of women walking miles with water containers on their heads reveals that so many in India still don't have access to basic needs. Children begging near a train capture the grinding poverty. Position of girls and women in the society and the role agriculture still plays in the economy are all beautifully captured by these photos.
