NE China students find a novel way to brighten up their city

Some students from the School of Arts at Changchun University of Technology, in the city of city of Changchun, Jilin province decided to decorate the manhole covers in one part of the city, on July 22, the Jilin New Culture Newspaper reports.

Actually, it was the Party secretary of the Changyang district, Xiao Kun, who got the notion to ask the students to get work on it, explaining, “I saw them painting the manhole covers of their university, so I came up with the idea of asking them to do it outside the university.”

Xiao went on to say, “I think it’s a great idea, since it can bring vitality and color to our community and give the students some practical experiences.”

The chairman of the School of Arts’ student federation, Shi Xiaojian, said, “We choose meaningful pictures, for example, Baymax, a figure from the recent film Big Hero 6, to teach us to be simple and happy”.

Shi added that the pictures can last for at least a year with a bit of periodical maintenance.

Supported by the local Daxing community and the university, the activity attracted quite a bit of attention from passers-by.
