A paper-cutting contest themed on core socialist values like harmony, equality, patriotism and integrity was held in the city of Tonghua, Jilin province, during the Chinese New Year and has assembled nearly 600 artistic works from the local Manchu ethnic group. Some of these works were intangible cultural heritages at the provincial or municipal level.

These paper works are recognized as embodiments of both exquisite skill and positive power. For example, a red and black paper-cutting work featuring a little boy giving sugarcoated fruits on a stick to his grandma highlighted “filial piety” in Chinese values.

A judge of the contest commented that these paper works have already combined traditional Chinese culture with core socialist values.
