The father of a 10-year-old girl accused of attacking an 18-month-old boy in Chongqing issued an apology on behalf of his daughter on China Central Television on Friday, but according to Beijing News, it was rejected by the boy's father.

"My name is Li. I should not have beaten the little boy that day. I was playing with him at home, then a dog barked, and then the little boy fell off (the building). I'm sorry I broke the heart of the little boy's parents, and I beg for their forgiveness," the apology letter said.

Footage from a surveillance camera in an elevator of a residential building in Chongqing showed that on Nov 25, the girl slapped and kicked the boy while they rode up to the 25th floor.

The boy was later found outside the building, covered in blood. He suffered a skull fracture and underwent surgery on Dec 16.

Li Shengzhong, father of the injured boy, said he did not see the apology letter and that he would not accept it.

"It's unnecessary because it's too late," the father was quoted by Beijing News as saying. He said that the apology was not sincere and he would not forgive the girl, the paper reported.

The father also told Beijing News that medical expenses for his son have exceeded 140,000 yuan ($23,000) but that the girl's father paid only 78,000 yuan and never contacted him after that.
