Identification chips are being implanted in Siberian tigers at a zoo in Shenyang, Liaoning province, to avoid inbreeding.

The chips will help with separation of cubs from the same parents, to prevent them from being placed in the same enclosure.

The zoo’s marketing staff said the identification system will help prevent genetic disorder.

More than 100 animals in the zoo will have the chips implanted in their tails. The chips contain information about each tiger’s age, gender and blood relations.

The zoo expects dozens of cubs to be born this year.
