Cyber thief caught in Shenzhen

A 25-year-old man accused of illegally obtaining information from 6 million Japanese accounts was charged with theft and credit card fraud in Shenzhen, Baoai district, the Nanfang metropolis daily reported today.

The man was accused of illegally obtain approximately information from 6 million Japanese e-mail accounts and information from over 10,000 credit cards. He was allegedly able to use the stolen information to log onto various Apple iCloud accounts, where he then siphoned over $1,600.

The man supposedly exploited the fact that some people use the same e-mail and passwords for multiple services including their Apple accounts. Once he indentified the accounts with money, he would purchase online game items with those accounts and then proceed to sell the virtual items to other players for real-world currency.
