Sinopec subsidiary awarded Malaysia refinery contract

BEIJING - Sinopec Engineering Group, a subsidiary of China's biggest refiner Sinopec, has been awarded a refinery contract worth $1.33 billion by Malaysian oil firm Petronas, Sinopec announced on Tuesday.

It said in a statement that it has been contracted for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of an oil refining and petrochemical integrated plant in Pengerang in the state of Johor.

The core parts of the project include a 15-million tons/year crude oil atmospheric distillation unit and an 8.8-million tons/year residue hydrotreating unit.

It will involve the largest investment in a plant of its kind in Malaysia in 20 years.
