NEW YORK -- Lionel Messi claimed his second straight MLS Golden Boot award on Saturday despite going goalless in Inter Miami's 3-3 home draw with Charlotte.
The 39-year-old finished the regular season with 26 goals, ahead of FC Dallas forward Petar Musa (22) and Nashville's Sam Surridge (21).
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, who also provided 17 assists, became the first back-to-back winner of the award.
Messi retired from international football in October but has two years left on his Inter Miami contract.
Inter Miami, the reigning MLS champion, finished the regular season second in the Eastern Conference and will face Columbus Crew in the first round of the playoffs.
