US chip heavyweight AMD is participating in the ongoing China International Import Expo for the sixth consecutive year, showcasing its 6th Gen AMD EPYC processors in China for the first time, under the theme "Empowering the Agentic AI Era".
"Agentic AI is driving continued growth in compute demand," Spencer Pan, senior vice-president of AMD and president of AMD Greater China, said. "With our full-stack product portfolio spanning cloud, edge, and endpoint devices — together with an open software ecosystem — AMD is collaborating closely with customers, partners, and developers in China to accelerate innovation."
Pan added that AMD looks forward to using CIIE to "deeply integrate the world's leading computing technologies and products with China's diverse industrial scenarios, enabling AI to truly become a powerful engine for industrial development".
The sixth Gen EPYC, built on "Zen 6" architecture and 2nm process technology, anchors AMD's cloud compute showcase. As Agentic AI accelerates, inference is becoming an increasingly important AI workload and is driving continued evolution in data center architectures, according to AMD.
On the endpoint side, AMD is highlighting its Agentic PC, powered by Ryzen AI Max Series processors, which runs large AI models locally to protect data privacy and reduce token costs.
To help cultivate the next generation of innovators, AMD works with universities across China through its "Spring Rain Program" to establish AI training labs and innovation demonstration centers, bringing the open-source ROCm software platform and Ryzen AI endpoint platforms into teaching and research environments.
At this year's CIIE, AMD is showcasing a range of university-led innovation projects, including AI for Science research in protein structure recognition and design by East China Normal University using the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, as well as a smart home project from Beijing University of Technology. These projects demonstrate how young innovators are using advanced compute platforms to explore new technologies and applications.
